HISTORY

Lake Titicaca

One of the most important destinations on your visit to Peru is the famous Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, at 3,812 m a.s.l., 281 meters deep and covering 8,300 km².

One of the legends of the origin of the Inca people takes place here, as does the development of the Tiwanaku culture, which made a great contribution to the development of Inca culture and the Inca Empire.

Today Lake Titicaca is an emblematic tourist attraction thanks to its exceptional beauty, unique in the world, and its cultural and social traditions, and it is the ideal complement to your visit to Cusco and Machu Picchu! The highlights we include in our tour packages are the Uros floating islands, the islands of Taquile, Amantaní and Chifrón, the Sillustani tombs and Lake Umayo.

There are two ways to reach the Puno high plateau from the inter-Andean valleys of Cusco: by air, via Juliaca airport, or along the southern tourist corridor, either by direct ground transport or on the Cusco – Puno excursion.
Toptur Perú offers this excellent extension, and we recommend 3 days and 2 nights.
