TIPON PIKILLAQTA Y ANDAHUAYLILLAS
FULL DAY

Today we drive to the southern Cusco called South Valley. First we’ll visit the archaeological site of Tipón (Center for the Worship of Water). This place consists of spectacular well-preserved terracing and considered as a center of agricultural experimentation located at the head of a small valley. Tipón (11,000 ft) is noted for its fine and fantastic irrigation system as well. The system was fed by a natural spring from the sacred mountain known as Pachatusan which flows to this day. Then we go to the archaeological remains of Pikillaqta (10,000 ft), considered the major-pre-Inka urban center in the Cusco area. It was built around 1,100 AD by the Wari culture. Across the road from Pikillaqta and about one kilometer away is the huge Inka gate of RumilColca, built on Wari foundations. In our way to the little village of San Pedro we’ll have our lunch. After that we will visit the Wiraqocha Temple - Raqchi (11,500 ft). This place was once one of the holiest shrines of the Inka Empire. Later we continue on to the pretty Andean village of Andahuaylillas which is famous for its beautiful painted ceiling as well as its fine paintings and attractive colonial houses, comparable to the best in Cusco. Late in the afternoon return to Cusco.
