QEROS TREK
07 Days - 06 Nights
SUMMARY
Traveling southeast from the capital of the Inka Empire, one encounters the most important Natural Gods of the Cordillera of Vilcanota: Ausangate Mount (20,839 ft) and Sinaq'ara Mount (19,685 ft).
Located in the province of Paucartambo, department of Cusco and protected by these sacred mountains, isolated and lonely, mysterious and remote is the native community of Qeros.
The Qeros nation is the latest generation of propertied men from the deepest Andean tradition. Here people have maintained their language for hundreds of years (Quechua or Runasimi) as well as the religion of their ancestors. Even today they conduct offerings to their sacred mountains and payments to Mother Earth (Pachamama). They still dance, sing and celebrate their festivals as before.
The Qeros nation has survived through time and history, practicing their customs and carrying out their traditional agricultural and pastoral activities like they have done for hundreds of years. They maintain their own moral norms, their own laws and style of indigenous dress.
If what you are looking for is a real connection with the Andean world where you learn the culture of the people, we would recommend this truly unique experience.
ITINERARY
Day 01: CUSCO - CHEQTAK’UCHO
You will be picked up from your hotel, leaving Cusco for Ocongate for about eight hours in a dusty road arriving to Cheqtak’ucho village in our private car (15,600 ft). Camping and Overnight. (L/D)

Day 02: CHEQTAK'UCHO - WALLATAPAMPA - KIKOK'UCHO - ABRA
We have breakfast early in the morning, and then you are introduced to our local guide, an inhabitant of Hatun Qeros. After preparing the equipment along with our support staff we start our walk towards Wallatapampa. We go uphill along the riverside, surrounded by herds of llamas, small villages, houses made of stone and thatched roofs and pastoral families that till the land. Then we walk down towards Kikok'ucho where lunch is waiting for us. Later on, we continue to the second pass through solitary and cloudy landscapes, arriving at our second camping spot at about 5.00 pm. Here we camp and have dinner. (B/L/T/D)

DAY 03: HATUN QEROS
After breakfast we hit the trail, observing pastoral children and herds of llama and alpacas. We walk down 12 kilometers until we arrive to the Hatun Qeros nation (9,500 ft) at around lunch time. At first sight, it’s a strange and inhospitable place surrounded by an impressive landscape between the mountains and the valley. Here you’ll be introduced to the inhabitants of Qeros and then you’ll take a rest and have lunch in a local family’s house. Afterwards you can wander off and explore at your own pace around this special place. At night we will have a traditional ceremony called "Payment to the Earth" directed by our local guide, where we present a gift or “despacho” to the Pachamama (Mother Earth) and Apus (Spirits of the Mountains), where you will feel a true connection with nature and the energy that encircles this sacred place. Dinner and overnight in family house. (B/L/T/D)

DAY 04: HATUN QUEROS
Wake up at dawn and have breakfast. Today we’ll have a kind of cultural exchange with the villagers, participating in activities such as knitting and planting. Finally we’ll hand over some gift and presents for the children. Then we have a farewell lunch with our friends of Qeros. Return to Kikok'ucho for camping, tea time, dinner and overnight. (B/L/T/D)
