Tacna, the southernmost city of Peru, will host “Peru, Mucho Gusto” food festival expecting about 5000 Chilean tourists

Tacna will host this successfully and tastefully event in Peru to take place from May 14 to 16 in Tacna. The third one organized by Peru's Export and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru).

The last three-day “Perú, Mucho Gusto” festival hosted in Lima, Cusco and the northern coastal city of Piura came to an end on recording a tremendous number of visitors.

They aim to promote not only traditional dishes but also local tourist attractions and culture as well as show the city's culinary delights to neighboring countries, which will attract a greater flow of tourists to border areas.

Estimated 12,000 Chilean tourists will visit Tacna during the three-day food festival; although, some of them may come for different reasons, so we consider to be about 5000 people attending the fair.

Between the most important typical dishes Tacna offers you have:

ü  Boiled tender corn accompanies by fresh cheese: Choclo con queso.

ü  Fried pork rinds with toasted corn: Chicharron de chancho con maiz tostado:

ü  A soup made with beef, pigs feet, wheat, yellow potato, squash, starch, and garlic: Patasca tacneña. 

ü  A stew made with cow stomach, cows feet, beef jerky, onions, and oregano: Picante a la tacneña.

ü  Guinea pig, pan fried under a flat, heavy stone: Cuy Chactado.

ü  Made with fresh corn, it can be either salty or sweet with raisins: Cuy Chactado:

ü  Sweetened mashed corn, semi dry, with raisins and peanuts: Humitas.

ü  Pork, turmeric, ground garlic, vinegar, and salt: Adobo de Chancho.

ü  Traditional drinks: the homemade wine, pisco, Tacna sour, and the liquors of damasco, frutilla, and tumbo
