SHORT INCA TRAIL TO MACHU PICCHU
02 Days - 01 Night

SUMMARY
This is the short version of the famous and stupendous Inca Trail for those who have less free time but do not want to miss out on the same adventure. We start walking at 104 Km. towards the Wiñawayna archaeologicalcomplex, then we continue toward Intipunku (The Sun Gate), where we might gaze at an impressive dusk, before we continue towards the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will stay the night. Early the next day we start off our visit to the ancient city of Machupicchu and then on to Cusco.

ITINERARY

Day 01: CUSCO - KM 104 - MACHUPICCHU
We will take at dawn for breakfast and then we will be transferred to San Pedro Train Station to begin our journey along the fantastic Sacred Valley of the Inkas and the banks of Wilkamayu River (Holy River) right to Aguas Calientes town (6,560 ft). Upon arrival we visit the Chachabamba archeological site (7,380 ft). Here agricultural product from other areas where collected to be brought to Machupicchu. Then we begin our walk towards Wiñaywayna (8,900 ft). On the way we have beautiful views of the Urubamba River and we’ll have plenty of chances to see different kinds of the famous orchid family. We’ll turn around the last corner and have the amazing Wiñaywayna rigth below us; we’ll stop to make a visit of this interesting and important Inka site. After a few minutes walking we stop for lunch. In the afternoon we’ll walk the last hours towards Machupicchu (7,900 ft) that we see on a distance from the Inti Punku (Gate of the Sun) in the beautiful afternoon sun before continuing down to Aguas Calientes (6,560 ft). We spend the night in a nice hotel in town. (L/D)

Day 02: MACHUPICCHU

After an early breakfast, we'll take a bus up the winding road to Machupicchu (7,900 ft) to witness the extraordinary dawn from Intipunku (Sun Door). Our scheduled visit allows you a calm quiet visit and lets you enjoy the natural beauty and the magical environment of this masterpiece of the Andean man. You'll have a guided tour. After the scheduled hour, you can explore and relax by yourself, including the option of climbing up WaynapicchuMountain (8,700 ft) for the spectacular view of cloud forest. After a morning of wandering through the Sanctuary of Machupicchu, we'll take the bus coming back to Aguas Calientes. Lunch. We'll transfer from Aguas Calientes to Poroy train station, and by bus proceed back to Cusco. We'll check into our hotel. (B/L)

RECOMMENDATIONS AND NOTES

• There are now even further restrictions on the number of people that can trek the Inka Trail on any given day. We recommend booking at least two or more months in advance
• Accommodations, transportation, meals, and optional excursions can be arranged
