INCA TRAIL TO MACHU PICCHU

SUMMARY
This tour package gives you a special itinerary for the most important places of Cusco city. You’ll visit museums, Pre-Inkan and Inkan archaeological sites, temples, colonial dwellings and churches surrounded by the amazing geography of the Andes. You will visit the typical market of Pisaq, the textiles market of Chinchero and the living Inkan city of Ollantaytambo, where it is possible to appreciate the customs and traditions of the local people. Finally, we will visit the majestic Sanctuary of Machupicchu, considered one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.
ITINERARY

Day 01: CUSCO PUMA CITY
Upon your arrival in Cusco our staff will greet you at the airport and transfer to your hotel. After getting settled into your accommodations you’ll take a short rest to ward off the altitude sickness followed by a few cups of the traditional coca tea. After this we will take you on a city tour of the amazing Cusco (11,000 ft). You will tour the most important and characteristic colonial areas of the city including Qorikancha Temple, The Great Cathedral and The Main Square. After lunch we continue on wandering through the Inka-era and colonial-era streets and finally we’ll visit the San Pedro Market to know the Andean products, textiles, handycrafts and shamanism products. Day 02: CUSCO
Today we visit the Museo Inka (Incan Museum), also known as the Archaeological Museum of Cusco, contains artifacts that trace Peruvian history from pre-Inka civilizations and Inka culture to the impact of the Conquest and colonial times on these native cultures. Afterwards we’ll drive up in our private van to San Cristobal Square to have an excellent panoramic view of Cusco City. We continue on up to the megalithic temple of Saqsaywaman, a unique mega-structure in the world (12,140 ft). Finally we go to Q'enko, Puka-pukara and Tambomachay. Return to Cusco. For your evening entertainment, you’ll enjoy a typical dance and music show at the Centro Qosqo de Arte Nativo. Hotel. (B/L)

Day 03: CHINCHERO - MARAS - MORAY
We'll take our bus to Chinchero (12,342 ft), the palace of Inka emperor Tupaq Inka Yupanki. Here we'll visit our friends of the Mama Oqllo Community and we can see how these women weave their beautiful and colorful textiles with the techniques and procedures of their ancestors. Then we'll visit the colonial church of Nuestra Señora de Monserrate and the archeological complex. We'll head next to Moray (11,100 ft), a stunning open-air crop laboratory. At Moray, we'll take a break and you can explore and walk around. Box lunch. From Moray, we'll continue on to Maras to behold a spectacle of unusual beauty: the salt mines (Salineras), located on a wide-open hill above the Urubamba Valley.
The salt mines are allotted to the citizens of Marasand each one gets a certain number of the plots to which they keep the profits of the salt that is packaged out and sold. Families pass the plots down from generation to generation like heirlooms. Finally we'll be transferred to Pisaq and our hotel for the night. (B/L/D)

Day 04: PISAQ - OLLANTAYTAMBO
After breakfast you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to the Pisaq archeological site (9,750 ft). You'll be conducted on a guided walking tour around this marvelous temple and circle back towards the town of Pisaq, where we'll visit the Andean market. We'll have a buffet lunch, and then take private transportation towards Ollantaytambo temple (9,200 ft). Situated in a fertile river valley and sheltered by mountains, this ancient Inka village is considered one of the most important living museums in the world. Perhaps the longest occupied town in the Americas, it retains the original Inka houses, canals, streets and walls. This is a perfect place to appreciate the technology and the vast archeological remnants of the Sun Temple of Ollantaytambo. There will be a guided visit with an expert guide. After Ollantaytambo, we'll transfer back to Cusco city. Hotel. (B/L)

Day 05: CUSCO - AGUAS CALIENTES
Early morning transfer to San Pedro train station to begin our journey along the fantastic Sacred Valley of the Inkas and the banks of Wilkamayu River (Holy River) right to Aguas Calientes town (6,560 ft). Reception and transfer to your hotel. There, you can wander off on your own, visit the Local Museum or the option of visiting the hot springs of town. (B/L)

Day 06: MACHUPICCHU
Early breakfast before taking the bus directly to Machupicchu (7,900 ft). In Machupicchu it is still a 15 minute-walk from the drop-off point to the famous views from the south zone of the farming terraces at the end of the Inka trail. Enjoy the early tour of Machupicchu with your guide who will explain the mysteries of this magical site, showing you the very best of it! Your guide will spend about two hours relating stories and explaining temples and special sectors. Then you have free time to take your photos before the 10:30 crowds arrive. You will also have the opportunity to climb Wayna Picchu Mountain (8,700 ft) or visit the Three Windows Temple. Once time is up we’ll take the bus to Aguas Calientes and we’ll provide a buffet lunch. We'll be transferred from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo by train, and by bus proceed back to Cusco. We'll check into our hotel and spend the night there. (B/L)

Day 07: CUSCO - TIPON - PIKILLAQTA
Today we travel southern Cusco to visit the temple of water "Tipon"(11,000 ft), where we will appreciate a center of agricultural experimentation and the exceptional work of Andean engineers. Under the guidance we’ll give an offering to the Apus and to the life-bearing waters that dwell in this stupendous place. Then we will go to the area of Urpikancha where we have picnic. Later we visit the 17th century church of Andahuaylillas, considered the Sistine Chapel of Perú adorned with many murals and paintings. In the afternoon, you return to Cusco and will be transferred to your hotel. Farewell dinner show. (B/D)
Day 08: CUSCO - LIMA
In the morning, transfer to the Cusco airport in time to catch your flight to Lima. (B)
