LARES TREK TO MACHU PICCHU
04 Days - 03 Nights

SUMMARY

This trip brings genuine contact with nature, geography and the people of the Andes crossing through an alternative route to the classical Inka Trail, avoiding crowds of tourists in order to have a real authentic and unique tour. We visit colourful Andean communities and get acquainted with their cordial and jovial peoples who live surrounded by breathtaking mountains, rivers and lakes. Afterwards we go through pathways at more than 14,000 feet of height and enjoy the relaxing thermo-medicinal baths of Lares, culminating with a visit to the majestic Inka Sanctuary of Machupicchu.
The Lares Valley Trek has yet to fully appear on the tourist radar and provides travelers remarkable insight into the lives of Andean farmers. This place is a unique area to get in touch with Andean people and learn about their traditions and life-style.
Next we visit Inka archeological remains of Ollantaytambo, considered a living museum cause its Inka stone dwellings and the people who continue to inhabit them. Finally we visit MACHUPICCHU Sanctuary the world´s most beautiful and important archeological Inka site.

Day 02:  LARES - WAQAWASI - IPSAYQOCHA - PATAKANCHA
After breakfast we will meet our horses, handlers and trek staff. Then we commence our beautiful trek through the Andes. Along the way you will be able to observe small Andean communities, spectacular mountain landscapes, herds of llamas and alpacas plus campesinos (people of the local villages) in colorful costumes as is traditional with all villages around. Later on, we reached Waqawasi (12,500 ft), sharing a special time with the local people. There is then a short, steeper climb to highest point of the circuit, at your pace of course. The climb is hard until to the most elevated pathway (14,500ft), but the panoramic view is amazing with snow-capped Andean peaks such as Pitusiray, Sawasiray, Chicón and others which are definitely worth the effort. After this, we descend to Ipsayqocha lagoon (13,780). Here, we camp and sleep overnight. (B/L/T/D)
