Lima - Nazca - Paracas - Cusco - Machupicchu - Puerto Maldonado
SUMMARY
This trip will allow you to get to know Perú through three its geographic areas, first visiting the Coast and the Peruvian ocean, the city of Lima, The Paracas National Reserve and the mysterious Lines of Nazca. Later you will come to know the capital of the Andean empire, the city of Cusco, The Sacred Valley of the Inkas and the magical sanctuary of Machupicchu. Finally from the Andes we will descend to lower ground visiting the Peruvian jungle for three days, considered the most extraordinary biological reserve in the world.
ITINERARY

Day 01: LIMA
We will meet you at the Lima airport for your reception and take you to your hotel. After getting settled into your accommodations, we will take you on a city tour of Lima (436 ft). You will tour the most important and characteristic colonial areas of the city including the Main Square, the Government Palace, The Cathedral, The San Francisco Church with its majestic convent and catacombs, and colonial-era buildings. Leaving central Lima, we will visit modern Lima, and you will be able to see the contrast between the 21st century capital of Perú and its colonial roots. You will spend the night in your hotel in Lima. (L)

Day 02: NAZCA LINES
In the morning, we'll leave Lima for Nazca by bus and get checked into the hotel there. Transfer to the airport where we will fly over the Nazca Lines. These lines create geometric designs and figures such as the hummingbird, monkey, whale, spider, condor, and dog. Archaeologists believe that it was a huge astronomical calendar and that it had a very important ritual role at the time. Hotel in Nazca city and overnight. (B/L)

Day 03: PARACAS - BALLESTAS ISLANDS
Early in the morning, transfer to the Peninsula Paracas, where you will take a motorboat excursion to the Ballestas Island. Sailing The Humboldt Ocean Current (considered by specialists as the most productive of the Earth), you will discover the most important marine wildlife sanctuary of Perú. These Islands are spectacular, eroded into numerous arches and caves, which provide shelter for thousands of seabirds like boobies, pelicans and penguins as well as other marine animals like sea lions. On the way back from the boat, we can also see the "Candelabro" (Candelabra), a giant figure etched in the sand on the side of a hill in the style of the Nazca Lines. Lunch. In the afternoon transfer to Lima. Hotel. (B/L)

Day 04: CUSCO - THE PUMA CITY
After our breakfast, we leave Lima in our flight to Cusco (11,000 ft), reception; transfer in to our hotel. Then we will tour the amazing city of Cusco. We will tour the city both on foot and by bus, wandering through the Inka-era and colonial-era streets. We will visit the Qorikancha Temple, The Main square, and then we go to San Cristobal Square to have an excellent panoramic view of Cusco City. Afterwards, we'll take our bus up to the megalithic temple of Saqsaywaman (12,139 ft). Finally we go to Q'enko, Puca-pukara and Tambomachay. Return to Cusco. (B/L)

Day 05: CHINCHERO - MARAS - MORAY
We'll take our bus to Chinchero (12,342 ft), the palace of Inka emperor Tupaq Inka Yupanki. Here we'll visit our friends of the Mama Oqllo Community and we can see how these women weave beautiful and colorful textiles with the techniques and procedures of their ancestors. Then we'll visit the colonial church of Nuestra Señora de Monserrate and the archeological complex. We'll drive next to Moray (11,100 ft), a stunning open-air crop laboratory. Guided visit. At Moray, we'll take a break, and you'll have the opportunity to explore and walk around. Before to continue and surrounded by the stunning Vilcanota Mountain Chain, we have a splendid lunch picnic. From Moray, we'll continue on to Maras, to behold a spectacle of unusual beauty: the salt mines (Salineras), located on a wide-open hill above the Urubamba Valley (9,500 ft). Finally transfer to Pisaq. Hotel. (B/L)

Day 06: PISAQ - OLLANTAYTAMBO
After breakfast you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to the Pisaq archeological site (9,750 ft). You'll be conducted on a guided walking tour around this marvelous temple and circle back towards the town of Pisaq, where we'll visit the Andean market. After buffet lunch we'll visit Ollantaytambo (9,186 ft). It is a typical town of Inka origin. Both the design and the foundations of most of its constructions correspond to the Inka times. This set was a strategic military, religious and agricultural center. There will be a guided tour. After Ollantaytambo, we'll transfer by train to Aguas Calientes (6,560 ft). There, you have the option of visiting the hot springs of town. (B/L)

Day 07: MACHUPICCHU
Early breakfast before taking the bus directly to Machupicchu (7,900 ft). (Optional for those wishing to walk: leave 04.30 am and walk up to Machupicchu arriving approx 06.00 am). In Machupicchu it is still a 15 minute-walk from the drop-off point to the famous views from the south zone of the farming terraces at the end of the Inka trail. Enjoy the early tour of Machupicchu with your guide who will explain the mysteries of this magical site, showing you the very best of it! Your guide will spend about two hours relating stories and explaining temples and special sectors. Then you have free time to take your photos before the 10:30 crowds arrive. You will also have the opportunity to climb Wayna Picchu Mountain (8,700 ft) or visit the Three Windows Temple. Once time is up we’ll take the bus to Aguas Calientes and we’ll provide a buffet lunch. We'll be transferred from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo by train, and by bus proceed back to Cusco. We'll check into our hotel and spend the night there. (B/L)

Day 08: EXPLORING CUSCO
Free day in Cusco to further explore this fascinating city. You can wander off on your own and visit some museums or churches, try the exquisite Peruvian cuisine, go shopping or just relax and take a rest. We will have a farewell dinner show. (B/D)

Day 09: MONKEY ISLAND
We'll transfer to the airport in Cusco and fly to Puerto Maldonado, where we'll be taken by boat down the Madre de Dios River to the Ecoamazonia Lodge. On the way we'll pass through the thick jungle vegetation and see alligators, turtles and other animals. After checking in to our typical bungalows, we'll visit the Monkey Island. Only five minutes from the lodge will find several species of monkeys and birds. Returning to the lodge for the night, we'll have the opportunity to witness the beautiful sunset. (B/L/D)

Day 10: QOCHA PERDIDA
After breakfast we'll walk through the virgin forest with our local guide to Qocha Perdida, which offers sustenance to a diverse array of jungle animals and birds. We can climb to a lookout in one of the largest trees, the “Shihuahuaco”, to see the jungle below. We'll return to the lodge by canoe and in the afternoon we'll have the chance to go by boat to visit a local family. We’ll spend the night in the Lodge. (B/L/D)

Day 11: GAMINATA
We'll travel on the Madre de Dios River to the trailhead, the starting point for our hike to the Gaminata/Briolo River. Located in the virgin forest are an extensive networks of navigable canals through which we can travel by canoe, very close to the animals. We'll return to the lodge for the night. B/L/D
Day 12: TRANSFER OUT
In the morning, you will be transferred to Puerto Maldonado airport for your flight for Lima, in time to catch your international flight. (B)
