SUMMARY
This twenty three-day program will introduce you to the most important and fascinating places in Perú, that includes a series of educational and tourist activities, sporting events, entertainment, interaction and connection with the Andean World.
Designed especially for groups of college students, but perfectly suited for other groups and the general public, this program offers: conferences; photographic exhibits, demonstrations of the techniques and processes of silversmithing, weaving, pottery, music and dance shows and vivential and mystical experiences as well as walking tours, trekking; river rafting trips and demonstrations and tastings of Peruvian cuisine. You will visit beaches, museums and the most important natural and cultural sites of Perú. It's said to be the truest experience of visiting the most incredible features of the country of the Inkas.

ITINERARY

Day 01: LIMA - CITY TOUR
We will meet you at the Lima airport for your reception and take you to your hotel. After getting settled into your accommodations, we will take you on a city tour of Lima. You will tour the most important and characteristic colonial areas of the city including the Main Square, the Government Palace, The Cathedral, the San Francisco Church with its majestic convent and catacombs, and colonial-era buildings. Leaving central Lima, we will visit modern Lima, and you will be able to see the contrast between the 21st century capital of Perú and its colonial roots. You will spend the night in your hotel in Lima. (L)

Day 02: CHICLAYO - LORD OF SIPAN
In the morning, we'll transfer to the airport for the flight to Chiclayo. Upon arrival, we'll go to our hotel and check in. Ahead of us, we will have a full-day tour of the highlights of Chiclayo: The Tomb of the Lord of Sipán (the richest tomb discovered in the Americas), the Valley of the Twenty-Six Pyramids of Tucume, and the National Museum of the Royal Tombs of Sipán. We'll break for lunch at a typical restaurant in Chiclayo and in the evening return to our hotel for the night. (B/L)
Note: On Mondays, we can offer the Brunning Museum instead of the Royal Tomb of Sipán, which is closed on Mondays.

Day 03: TRUJILLO - CHAN-CHAN
Early in the morning, we'll depart for the city of Trujillo by private transport. We'll spend the day touring the sights of Trujillo, including the colonial city and modern buildings, the Temples of the Sun and the Moon and the amazing adobe city of Chan-Chan, the capital of the Chimú Empire. Lunch will be included, and in the evening we'll spend the night at our hotel. (B/L)

Day 04: TRUJILLO - HUANCHACO - LIMA
Today we'll enjoy the beach of Huanchaco, where fishermen still surfing boats made from totora reeds called “caballitos de totora”, just as their ancestors did in ancient times. At the appropriate hour, we'll transfer to the airport to take the back flight to Lima. Upon arrival, we'll check into our hotel for the night. (B/L)

Day 05: PARACAS - BALLESTAS ISLANDS
Early in the morning, we'll leave Lima towards Ica in a private bus, and then continue to the Paracas Peninsula. There, we'll board a motorboat for our excursion to the Ballestas Island. Sailing The Humboldt Ocean Current (considered by specialists as the most productive on Earth). Here, we'll discover the most important marine wildlife sanctuary of Perú. These islands are spectacular: Time has eroded the land into numerous arches and caves, which provide shelter for thousands of seabirds like boobies, pelicans, and penguins, as well as sea lions and other marine animals. On the way back to shore, we can also see the "Candelabro” (Candelabra), a giant figure etched in the sand on the side of a hill, similar to the style of the Nazca Lines. We'll have lunch, and in the afternoon we leave Paracas heading Nazca. We'll check into our hotel there and spend the night. (B/L)

Day 06: NAZCA
In the morning, we will fly over the Nazca Lines. These lines create geometric designs and figures such as the hummingbird, monkey, whale, spider, condor and dog. Archaeologists believe that it was a huge astronomical calendar and that it had a very important ritual role at the time. (B/L)
Day 07: NAZCA - AREQUIPA
We will take a bus from Nazca to Arequipa (7,660 ft), spending the day in transit, and check into our hotel for the night. (B/L)

Day 08: CITY TOUR AREQUIPA
After breakfast we'll visit the best sites of the White City: the Main Square, the Cathedral, the San Francisco Convent, the city's colonial-era buildings, the colonial area of Yanahuara, and the Santa Catalina Convent. Most of the buildings in Arequipa were built with "sillar" rock (a white volcanic rock), that shimmers in the sun and gives the city its nickname. You will return to your hotel for the night. (B/L)

Day 09: AREQUIPA - CHIVAY
This day begins our two-day excursion to Colca Canyon. We will pass the National Reserve of Aguada Blanca and Salinas, seeing herds of vicuñas, llamas, and alpacas in their natural habitat and some birds like flamingoes, ibis, andean gooze, ducks, and the andean eagle, "Kara Kara". We will arrive at the village of Chivay (12,000 ft), capitol of the Caylloma province, lodging accommodation and taking a rest. In the afternoon and after lunch, we'll visit the medicinal thermal baths of “La Calera”. We will spend the night in the hotel in Chivay. (B/L)

Day 10: AREQUIPA - Colca CANYON - CRUZ DEL CONDOR - PUNO
We will leave Chivay early in the morning and travel two hours to Cruz Del Condor (12,500 ft). There you can see terraces that predate the Inkas and are still farmed by the local people, along with the unique landscapes of the one deepest canyon in the world. At 9.00 am we will have the unforgettable experience of watching the flight of the condors. Afterwards, we will return to Arequipa and take a bus to travel from Arequipa to Puno (12,700 ft) during the night. Hotel in Puno. (B/L/D)

Day 11: Titicaca LAKE - UROS - TAQUILE - AMANTANI
We will have breakfast and then be picked up from our hotel to head Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. We will take a launch from the Puno docks to Uros, which is an amazing complex of about 40 floating islands, made out of the totora reed. From Uros, we continue to the island of Taquile, hiking a beautiful Inka trail surrounded by the natural landscape of the Sacred Lake of the Inkas. We will have lunch at a restaurant in Taquile. After lunch, we will take our boat to Amantani Island, where the community preserves its ancient ways of life: clothing, language, customs and social organization. At Amantani, we'll visit the sacred mountains of Apu Pachatata and Pachamama, where we will make a special offering. After dinner we will be welcomed with a fantastic party with the local people in “La Peña”. We will spend the night as guests in the comfortable homes of local families. (B/L/D)

Day 12: PUNO - SILLUSTANI
Our boat will meet us at Amantani and we will cruise across the lake back to Puno. From Puno, we'll visit the Umayo Lagoon and the stunning pre-Inka tombs of Sillustani (13,000 ft), where Qolla’s noble class (Caciques, priests) were buried in funeral towers called “ch’ullpas”. Before being deposited in the ch'ullpas, their bodies were mummified and placed in the fetal position. They were buried together with some of their belongings, such as gold and silver objects, jewelry, ceramics, and food. We will have lunch in Puno and return to our hotel for the night. You can visit the Coca Museum as an optional tour. (B/L)

Day 13: PUNO - CUSCO
After breakfastwe'll start the eight-hour journey from Puno (12,700 ft) to Cusco (11,000 ft), in our private transport. Along the way we will visit the Wiraqocha Temple in Raqchi (11,482 ft), the colonial church of San Pedro de Andahuaylillas (called the Sistine Chapel of Perú) and the RumilColca South Gate. Once we arrive in Cusco, we will check you into your hotel. (B/L)

Day 14: CUSCO - THE PUMA CITY
After our breakfast, we will tour the amazing city of Cusco (11,000 ft). We will tour the city both on foot and by bus, wandering through the Inka-era and colonial-era streets. We will visit the Qorikancha Temple, the colorful neighborhood of San Blas, the Main Square, the Great Cathedral and the San Pedro Local Market. After lunch we'll drive up to the San Cristobal Square to have an excellent panoramic view of Cusco City. Afterwards, we'll take our bus up to the megalithic temple of Saqsayhuaman (12,139 ft). Finally we go to Q'enko, Pucapukara and Tambomachay. Return to Cusco. Hotel. (B/L)

Day 15: CHINCHERO - MARAS - MORAY
We'll take our bus to Chinchero (12,342 ft), the palace of Inka emperor Tupaq Inka Yupanki. Here we'll visit our friends of the Mama Oqllo Community and we can see how these women weave beautiful and colorful textiles with the techniques and procedures of their ancestors. Then we'll visit the colonial church of Nuestra Señora de Monserrate and the archeological complex. We'll head next to Moray (11,100 ft), a stunning open-air crop laboratory. At Moray, we'll take a break, and you'll have the opportunity to explore and walk around. From Moray, we'll continue on to Maras, to behold a spectacle of unusual beauty: the salt mines “Salineras”, located on a wide-open hill above the Urubamba Valley (7,900 ft). We'll round out our trip with a short walk down to Salineras. Finally we’ll be transferred to Pisaq village and then to our hotel for the night. (B/D)

Day 16: VILCANOTA RIVER RAFTING
In the morning, we'll transfer from Pisaq (9,750 ft) to Pachar, a town that straddles the Vilcanota River. Once we arrive, we'll receive instructions and a brief training course in rafting. Around 10.00 am we’ll pass through the calmer parts of the river, where we can practice rafting techniques before hitting the faster Class II & III rapids. Our trip through this portion of the river will last two hours. In the afternoon, we'll return to Pisaq. After dinner we'll receive an informative lecture on the Andean cosmovision and philosophy. We'll spend the night in our hotel in Pisaq. (B/L)

Day 17: PISAQ - LARES VALLEY
After breakfast you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to the Pisaq archeological site. You'll be conducted on a guided walking tour around this marvelous temple and circle back towards the town of Pisaq (9,750 ft), where we'll visit the Andean market. We'll have a buffet lunch and then take private transportation into the mountains heading Lares village. We'll pass the communities of Accha Baja and Totora. We'll drive through the Lares Pass (13,120 ft) to drop into the Lares valley (10,200 ft). Once we arrive at Lares, we'll spend the rest of the day relaxing in the medicinal hot springs. In the evening, we'll have dinner and spend the night at the Lares campsite. (B/L/T/D)

Day 18: LARES VALLEY - WAQAWASI - IPSAYQOCHA
While we eat breakfast, our guides and porters will break camp and prepare the equipment for our trip. Our trek begins in a fertile valley and follows a small river up through the mountains. After walking for two hours, we'll begin to see the thatched-roof stone houses of Waqawasi village (12,500 ft). We'll take a break and visit the village. Once we leave, we'll climb up the Condor Pass, the major pass of the trip (13,800 ft). From here, we can take in the stunning view of the renowned Mount Veronica (18,865 ft). After a gentle descent of about an hour's walk, we'll arrive at the beautiful Ipsayqocha Lake (12,600 ft). There, we'll make camp, have dinner and spend the night. (B/L/T/D)

Day 19: IPSAYQOCHA - WILLOQ - OLLANTAYTAMBO
Today's trek leads downhill to an overlook that faces a wide valley. As we descend into the valley, we'll pass through the communities of Patakancha and Willoq located at 11,150 ft above sea level, where the people produce some of the finest weavings in Perú. Here, we can observe them employ their skilled techniques in the creation of ponchos and other garments. We'll have lunch, and then continue on to Pumamarka (10,500 ft) and Ollantaytambo (9,186 ft). When we arrive to Ollantaytambo, we'll have dinner and check into our hotel. (B/L)

Day 20: OLLANTAYTAMBO
Situated in a fertile river valley and sheltered by mountains, this ancient Inka village is considered one of the most important living museums in the world. Perhaps the longest occupied town in the Americas, it retains the original Inka houses, canals, streets and walls. This is a perfect place to appreciate the technology and the vast archeological remnants of the Sun Temple of Ollantaytambo (9,186 ft). There will be an on-site lecture, with an expert guide. After Ollantaytambo, we'll transfer by train to Aguas Calientes (6560 ft). There, you have the option of visiting the hot springs of town. (B/L)

Day 21: MACHUPICCHU
After breakfast and half hour later we’ll aboard the firts tourist bus to drop us to Machupicchu main door (7,900 ft). We’ll have complete guided tour of this spectacular and mystical place. The guided tour include walk through the different section such as urban, agriculture, and the religions zone. According with the time and your feeling you can coordinating with the tour guide climb to Waynapicchu (Young Mountain), this climbing take around one hour to get the summit from where you can have the best view for photos of all Machupicchu and of deep green canyon surrounding the sacred Inka City. Afterwards you have a free time to explorer on your own pace. At mentioned time aboard a tourist bus to descend to Aguas Calientes town. Before stepping on the train for our ride back to Cusco we’ll have lunch. Then transfer in our private Poroy Train Station - Cusco. Hotel. (B/L)

Day 22: EXPLORING CUSCO
You have the entire day to explore the city of Cusco at your leisure! You can wander off on your own, visit some museums or Churches in this beautiful and fascinating center of the Inca Empire, try the exquisite Peruvian cuisine, go shopping or just relax and take a rest. We will have a farewell dinner. (B/D)
Day 23: TRANSFER OUT
After breakfast, transfer to the Cusco airport for your flight for Lima, in time to catch your international flight. (B)
